❤This was really great!!!! Thank you so much. You got me thinking about 45 records and took me right back to my childhood.
Tim, another great vid! Have you done or considered doing a video of the iconic buildings of Los Angeles? Those crazy buildings like a doughnut shop or hotdog stand , or Capitol Records or such? I'd pay to see that!!!
Thank you for remembering the great Al Wilson!I learned a lot from this. I’ve always loved the spiritual aspect of his songs. On The Road Again was pure genius, of course. The guy was definitely tuned into something special. What a loss.🙏
I always dug the guitar player in CANNED HEAT. saw them several times supporting other big acts. Live his guitar playing was pretty awesome. Yes he stood out. I cant say i bought any of their records . This short documentary was amazing and welcomed.
Very interesting thank you
Same year as Hendrix , Morrison and Janis Joplin. I believe. SADLY overlooked by most.
I saw a line up here in the 80's in Australia with, Vestine, Taylor and De la Parra.... great gig...
Thank you, I have really liked Alan for about 6years now. It was a real shame that we lost him so early. R.I.P. Alan Wilson aka The Blind Owl.
Really good documentary. I have an album of John Lee Hooker with Canned Heat as backup band, 'No Dancin''. Like someone else in this comment thread said: very thoughtful. Thanks.
Great show!! I grew up in the 70's absolutely digging 3 Dog Night. I have their Live at the Forum album that I've owned since it first came out I think in 1969. I still have some of their songs in Itunes!
Cool subject. This guy is def looked over in the 27 club. I admit I didn’t know much about the guy so thank you for this video. People will say he wasn’t really that memorable but he did and created something 99.9% us normies never will. His name will still come up every now and then 100 years from now. I doubt mine and most other peoples will.
Alan Wilson is the reason I play a Les Paul,, a reissue of the 54 the same model he played
Great really great very thoughtful thx much
Loved making this vid, thank you.
Canned Heat got in my blood id play that cassete onthe road again lets work together etc for my little son when he got cranky calmed him down...thx
Excellent. 5 stars.
Thanks much.
This is my new favorite channel!!! I watched the blind owl episode which was great and then on my feed I see my favorite alt country singer of all time THE Gram Parsons and I had to watch that! You did a great job showing his life and the dynamics of it. Not just the dark side of the booze and drugs but the light also like his talent as a musician and song writer and all around country bad ass! Thanks!
Thanks. Filming Gram's vid was so much fun. Trust me when I tell you spending the night in room 8 was a complete thrill.
Outstanding video, on the road again is my favorite song of all time ❤
Agreed! I always have to repeat play it cuz the first time around I get fixated on the harmonica.
Accidentally did too much .
Im 62 and dig this channel. Just subscribed so here we gooooo.....
Alan, unfortunately, joined the "27" club in 1970. What an incredible bluesman and talent ! RIP brother!
I think this is great! Decades from now, the stories behind the music will still be there for new listeners.
Right on!
Never been heard of, so don't care!
So you're only into things you've heard of? That's so sad, there's a whole world of music your missing out on ...
It's just a thought, did he have autism? He may have been funtionally autistic. Lookkng at his face and his vision issues, there could have been something going on in his brain that couldnt be detected in the 60s that would now. It's not normal to not want to bathe or sleep outside with regularity.
There have been a lot of comments like yours speculating on it and in those days it wasn't something that was readily diagnosed. I think its very likely which made what he accomplished all the more impressive.
I remember like yesterday, how On the Road Again freaked me out, when I heard it the first time in 1968. Especially Blind Owls voice. I had very few pocket money then, but I had to go immediate to the record shop and buy the single. Great souvenirs.
I got hooked on Canned Heat in '68 when I was 16. In 1968. I was proud that the "Blind Owl" was, like me, from Boston, Massachusetts!
Cool video. Interesting content! Ty
"When I get big I'm going to get me a electric guitar, when I get real big."!
He's got him a few!
I remember when Reds were big in the 70s. I tried them once and disliked them. Cannot understand why people liked the feeling they gave. More recently tried Xanax. Again, not ebjoyable. RIP to a talented musician.
Not my thing either but I must say, I'm glad they outlawed Quaaludes.
@@RockessentialTim Tried them around 3 times and liked them way too much!
These videos are absolutely awesome! And for the life of me I can't figure out why there aren't 1 million subscribers or more on this channel! The rich and iconic storytelling brings me right there! I'm so glad to see that there is someone out their still bringing us this amazing rock and roll history and keeping it alive for all to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks kindly. I started the channel a couple years back after I retired and I feel truly fortunate that it's grown to where it is and that I get to have so much fun doing it.
@@RockessentialTim This should be a Tv show on the History channel or MTV or something!! Please keep it up.
I can't seem to stop so its all good.
I don’t know what your background is, but you should see about getting some interviews with some of these shows that would be really tits
Thank you. That was great reportage and a respectful telling of his story. R.I.P. Alan Wilson. They're still talking about you.
I play harp too and this was a special episode to me. Thanks for the comment!
we are gonna miss him when he goes to his next big show
Thanks for sharing this! Never knew his personal history but the original Canned Heat records are truly great! Awesome history lesson!
Loved making it , thank you!
3 musicians died over 3 consecutive weeks, all 27yrs old. No that doesn't seem weird at all, nothing to see here people. They definitely weren't sacraficed.
The drummer took himself the official voice that Alan suicide. Really is a bad karma doing that a living for decades of this music and talent.
I was just explaining the 27 club to my 16 yo daughter playing her Axis blew her mind 🤠 cool content Bro rock & roll baby!
I remember in my own life 27 being very special and memorable: lots of forks in my road that year. I wonder if it is that way for lots of people? All I know is I feel fortunate to be on this side of it!
@@RockessentialTim that was the “peak” of my band Vicious Beatniks
The punk band from the 90's?
Saw the Band in 2018 Nederland Colorado ❤Can HEAT KICKED ASS ❤
So "Blind Owl" fell the 27 club? Sad
Does anybody know, which song this is starting at 8:12 ?
All the music in the video is original score.
@@RockessentialTimdoes this mean, it was composed and performed by the Canned Heat? Can you maybe tell me the name of this song? Thanx 🙏
No I wrote and produced that song in my studio about a year ago for the Monkees video I did and it does not have a name. I only use the music for my videos.
@@RockessentialTim I like it a lot 👌💫🪷
@@gernotboesser6901 That makes me feel REALLY good because the truth of the matter is I spend as much time on making the music for the vids as I do filming them but hardly anybody notices.
Great Video, highly informative, you taught me the backstory I didn't know, thank-you.
Yer welcome.
Sounds like the same drugged up musician that they all are.
You should listen to classical.
Accidental suicide sounds exactly just like the tune that John Mayall wrote about James Marshall / Jimi Hendrix on "USA Union" Mayall also wrote about Canned Heat on "The Bear" from his 1969 lp :"Blues from Laurel Canyon" which rocks Mick Taylor on lead / rhythm guitar ...
Besides Blind Owl Wilson, Mick Taylor might be the other most overlooked guitarist of his time. There. I said it.
Agreed! 👍
Canned heat had to be strained through loaf of white bread.Remove the ends, put a hole in bottom of the bread bag and pour the canned heat through the bread. If you didn't strain it,a person would develop blindness.
Great Documentary! Thank you!
Cool, thanks!
Hey ! I been in that Record Store !
I like the writing on the ceiling that reads, "Listen To Bill Hicks".
Very cool video documentary. As a fan who loved the Paisley Underground scene and their first full length album - All Over The Place - I wish they had released a couple more albums in that musical vein.
I think a lot of folks assumed that their career started with Manic Monday and there is just so much more. I love All Over The Place too. I got to see them play not long after that on a club bill with The Replacements. Even way back then I remember them playing Hazy Shade Of Winter.
The 27 club sacreficed Jim Morrison,Amy Whinhouse,Jimmy Hendrix and others.🙏
Very cool. I thought that photo was NYC. I saw Todd in 1970 my second concert @ 16 after Tull it was right after leaving the Nazz. He walked out into th audience when he sang Hello it me
He's been a pretty special artist for sure.
& I still have my 45 of Canned Heat & the Chipmunks! "Hey, Alvin, try some of this"?!?
I've heard through the grapevine that they were thrilled with that record. Collectors item?
Hey Tim. Heard your referral to this. Very groovy! IMHO Neil and Rodger Waters are the only cats who are holding true to our 1960’s values.
